The wait is over: the name of the new restaurant opening its doors by the river Aura in Turku this August is Bassi!
The restaurant’s name derives from the historical building it is situated in, Bassi house. This partly two-, partly three-floor stone building was designed and built according to architect Charles Bassi’s plans. It is a wholly unique building in form and structure.
The second and third floors of Bassi house that for years housed flats and offices have never before been open to a wider audience. Around two years ago the first plans to convert the space into a restaurant were made, and very soon Manu Events – known for Kupittaa region’s Mauno restaurants among other things – was chosen as a partner.
– I’ve always dreamed of opening a restaurant by the Turku riverside, and now my dream is coming true, gushes Santtu Kiili, CEO of Manu Events.
– Bassi is all about fun, social culinary experiences: delicious shared dishes in a relaxed setting. We specialize in seafood – among other delicacies, our menu boasts a spectacular shellfish platter. Meat dishes will be served as well, and we are putting great effort into creating tasty vegetarian options, says Kimmo Nurmi, Manu Events’ restaurant operations manager.
Restaurant Bassi is open lunchtimes and evenings. The restaurant floor upstairs, seating up to 150, is divided into a main floor seating around 70 and three cabinets for 10—20 people. These cabinets can be reserved for events, meetings, and private dinners. The third floor has a club venue with an attached roof terrace. This venue, a night club at weekends, can be booked for private events.
